In late 2019, the owners and practitioners of Your Foot Clinic, Matt and Liam, attended a specialised course to learn about how to apply Amino Neuro Frequency Therapy, in order to increase the range of treatment options that they are able to offer patients.
Here, we talk to Liam about what ANF Therapy is, why they chose to add this therapy to their toolkit and the impact it’s already having on their patients.
Liam, this sounds really interesting. Firstly, can you tell us, ‘What is ANF?’
Amino Neuro Frequency Therapy is a holistic approach to pain and inflammation management. It’s an emerging area in therapeutic medicine that is being practised all over the world and has impacts in four main areas:
Enhances the body’s ability to heal itself
Normalises the body’s functions and systems
Reduces pain and inflammation
Increases energy levels and overall feelings of wellbeing
So how did it all start?
Dr. Mikel Hoff invented Amino Neuro Frequency Therapy after an extensive career including a PhD in nerve systems. He also worked with German and Italian tennis professionals on the ATP tour as Coach, Manuel Therapist and Mental Trainer and specialises in the nervous system and the body‘s biochemistry.
After many years of research into the body’s electrical frequencies, Dr Mikel Hoff developed wearable discs containing carbonised metal (developed by NASA) that hold electrical charges of certain frequencies. These frequencies match those naturally emitted by different parts of the body, so when the right combination of them are worn, it resets the body to its normal functioning, reducing inflammation and therefore pain and allows the body to heal. There are currently over 200 different discs, each with their own unique frequency and function.
And can you tell us, how exactly does Amino Neuro Frequency Therapy work?
The ANF approach is to reduce inflammation and improve the overall function of each body system. It’s based on the premise that each system is interlinked: lymphatic, nervous, endocrine, organ, muscular, tissue, vascular and emotional; and that every living thing has a frequency. A frequency is the number of times the wave oscillates per second. All functions of the body operate at different frequencies.
The discs used in ANF contain a metal that are embedded with a frequency that mirrors the optimal performance frequency for different parts of the body. When applied, the discs become activated by the body’s infrared heat and regulate and optimise these functions.
When someone has pain or inflammation, that part or parts of the body start operating at a different frequency so these discs “bring it back to normal” so the body can heal and function optimally again.
In science speak: Amino Neuro Frequency Therapy is a non-thermal EMF device (NTEMF) that is non-ionizing, meaning it has the capacity to add or reduce energy to a cell by increasing or decreasing its rate of oscillation without changing its molecular structure.
Why did you become interested in ANF?
Simply – it’s another way for us to help patients get better alongside the other methods we practice.
Sometimes with patients suffering from long term pain we would often ask: Is there a reason why something isn’t getting better? Could be related to something else going on in the body; in the gut, lymphatic or nervous, for example, that could be contributing to chronic pain in, say, someone’s leg or foot?
ANF is a holistic method which considers other factors in the body that could be affecting pain in one specific spot. For example, people’s lymphatic system, emotional stress, their nerve and blood flow, all play a role in the body’s ability to heal itself. This approach addresses these factors, as well as looking at the structures in and around the foot, ankle and legs.
What happens in the clinic when you use ANF as part of the treatment?
Firstly, we conduct a thorough assessment of patients and to identify which areas we need to treat.
The discs are applied to the skin (we usually use multiple discs at once) and we monitor the patient for 10 – 15 minutes. We check that they are able to report a decrease in pain and then are sent home, leaving the discs on for 72 hours. Then the patient returns to the clinic for a review.
What does the treatment feel like?
Generally patients will feel nothing, sometimes a warm sensation where the discs have been applied to the body. Patients can often feel an instant reduction in their pain levels and function can increase just as quickly.
Who is the treatment for?
In our clinic we use it with patients suffering from chronic pain and inflammation in the foot and ankle; where different treatments have been tried without much success. We also use it with athletes whose performance is affected by tightness causing issues with their range of motion. In both cases we look holistically at the body and what factors could be affecting the feet in order to make an assessment of what the best treatment might be.
Is ANF Therapy similar to any other treatment?
Perhaps a Tens machine or ultrasound are the most similar things that our patients report being familiar with when we talk about ANF. But having something applied to the body over a number of days and having a therapeutic effect is quite unique and therefore quite effective.
What results are you seeing from using ANF Therapy with your patients?
We’ve been really pleased with the positive impact this treatment is having on our patients. They’re telling us about various improvements such as:
pain and inflammation decreasing
range of motion increasing
sleep improving
energy levels are better
and their overall health well being and stress levels are reduced
There is always a delay between what is observed in the clinic as “Clinical effectiveness” and what has been demonstrated in the research as being “Evidence based”. As more and more practitioners across different disciplines use ANF and more studies are conducted, the evidence for this treatment is also increasing.
Are there any side effects or risks?
There can be some effects of the detox as the body resets itself – these are things that the body naturally goes through when it detoxes such as slight dizziness, tired or thirsty.
At Your Foot Clinic, Amino Neuro Frequency Therapy has already become a successful compliment to our traditional treatments and exercise programs; helping patients can return to their normal levels of activity. It’s enabling patients suffering from chronic pain to do their exercises pain free, which improves strength and builds up muscles so they are less uncomfortable.
